One Man. One Mistake. One Fight That Could Break Trump’s Illusion of Power.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia — Bring Him Back.
The Trump team wasn’t just cruel — they were sloppy.
In their haste to deport as many people as possible, they trampled over court orders, ignored legal protections, and treated human lives like clerical errors. Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father of three, was one such casualty. Despite a 2019 court ruling that prohibited his removal to El Salvador due to the risk of gang persecution, he was abruptly deported in March 2025. The administration later admitted in court filings that his deportation was an "administrative error". He is currently held in the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), a high-security prison in El Salvador.
Now, Democrats are fighting to bring him home — and to expose just how deep the rot of incompetence ran under Trump’s immigration crackdown.
On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) traveled to El Salvador to advocate for Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s release. Despite a U.S. Supreme Court order requiring the Trump administration to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return, Salvadoran authorities blocked Van Hollen from seeing or even speaking with him. Vice President Félix Ulloa claimed there wasn’t enough advance notice to arrange a visit — not even a phone call.
It’s obvious. Painfully, unmistakably obvious what El Salvador’s government is doing.
They’re trying to curry favor with Donald Trump’s White House. Not because of balance, or diplomacy, or neutrality — but because they know exactly where the power lies. They are operating under the assumption that Trump is back, and they’re following orders. Let’s not pretend otherwise. This is a regime doing what it’s told.
And they’ve clearly gotten the memo: Keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia where he is. Don’t send him back.
