At last someone else has noticed what China has been doing for the last 50 years. They have helped many countries to replace obsolete utilities, road networks and railways but always with long term strings attached and hoping to spread their ideology. The USA has turned a blind eye to the point where their current leader is going about things in the most stupid way possible and, effectively, shooting himself and us in both feet.

Your thoughts are sensible but it cannot now be a quick solution. We need to work with China but to understand that they are the most useful trading partner in our current situation. Baden Powell was wise to teach his Boy Scouts to be prepared.

Tariff wars are just a tax on our own consumers paid mostly by those least able to afford to pay them.

yes, What I wrote is never going to happen with Trump at the top. He does not care about the US, he cares about what is in it for him.

The arrogance and shortsightedness of the Trump regime is building our coffin. How will we survive? Why isn’t he gone yet? It’s very hard to hang on to hope.

I think another way it makes China stronger internally and externally is that the US electing Trump again makes a mockery of democracy and makes it seem dangerous to those who are not in democratic nations. Easy messaging for China unfortunately: democracy brings you Trump we will bring stability and long term foresight

As always, Bullies gonna bully. Eventually, when you try to bully reality, reality punches you in the face.

If only our body politic would do the same.

It was clear from the outset that Trump did not have the cards in this particular game. Why he is so foolish as to imagine that he does…I didn’t know what an off-ramp might be. Your proposal makes great sense. I only wish someone in the White House were smart enough to consider a long-term vision.

He destroyed NAFTA instead of doubling down on it. He could have had committed allies, but he wants vassals, not allies, and we don’t want to play. An alliance to compete with China is not going to include the US now, at least not under its current administration.

Trump's blustering continues to keep the MAGA watch Fox and extreme right wing channels. He probably never even spoke to any country's leader to persuade ditching China's exports. If he did, they'd laugh but he may not care. Trump cares about being seen on TV. Period.
